Greetings,
One need not be a Victorian, to have a Lady's Maid. My next project is this delightful little lady designed to keep all my favorite bits of jewelry handy, just ready to select at a glance when required.
This is a Jean Greenhowe's creation, from the book '45 Great Gifts to Make'. I was so lucky to find this book in one of the book stores called Blossoms. I never even imagined that I will find Jean Greenhowe's book. This is one of my lucky findings.
The doll stands 11 1/2in tall and her body is a simple cardboard cone shape. I used an empty shoe box to make this doll. There are two horizontal folds in the skirt, forming four deep and four shallow pockets, into which you can slip ear-rings, finger rings and other trinkets. Brooch pins can also be pushed into the skirt fabric.
Below are the pictures of the doll before adding any jewelry on her and the other picture is just having a vintage effect on the photograph.
I have placed her on my dresser along with the jewelry box my mum gifted, which she bought from Dubai. She looks wonderful holding all my favorite earrings. It is so easy for me to pick the earrings that I want before I leave to work. Below are the pictures of the doll on my dresser.
I am truly in love with this little lady, so my husband ;)... I will be back with my next project, until then,
Happy Crafting!
