Watercolor 2.

Greetings,

I just finished another painting from The book, 'Words for friends to live by' which is illustrated by Mary Engelbreit. It was fun to paint this, and now it's hanging on a wall in my varenda, giving a beautiful look to my home ;)

Second and third day of the knitting class.

Greetings,

We continued our knitting workshop and Adithi and Sanjana have now learnt how to purl in the second class. Sanjana learnt the purl stitch pretty fast, but Adithi was slightly off the track in our second day of our workshop.

Today, was our third class, and Adithi had practiced it well. Although, she is a bit confused with the purl stitch, she is grasping it pretty fast and she has already started making pencil doll from Dolly times. She knitted 8 rows of stocking stitch, each row consisting of 12 stitches.

 On the other hand, Sanjana was least interested in the class today. It is quite difficult and challenging to teach small children, since, we can't predict their mood and they are quite caprice.

Overall, I enjoyed teaching these kids how to knit!

First day of the knitting class.

Greetings!

I got an opportunity to teach knitting to small children! I will teach some kids how to knit all the Sunday's of this month. We just finished our first knitting class here at Madagascar Kids (a Montessori). We only had two kids for our first class. Adithi (10 years) and Sanjana (8 years). It was quite challenging and fun to teach these small children. Thanks, to my cousin who organized this session. 

Adithi and Sanjana learnt how to cast on pretty easily. Here is the picture I took after they finished casting on.

Teaching how to knit, became even more challenging. Adithi, learnt how to knit, fairly quickly but it was slightly complicated for the 8 year old Sanajana. But, she managed to knit a row.

Sanjana is happy too, but quite exhausted after she managed to knit a few stitches.

Over all, it was a great experience to teach these kids. I told them to practice at home and knit a few rows. My fingers are crossed. Hope they have practiced at home. In my next class I will be teaching them how to purl.

Watercolor

Greetings,

Recently, I had an urge to paint and I tried one of the beautiful illustrations by Mary Engelbreit! This is taken from the book 'Words for friends to live by'!  The book consists of beautiful illustrations and wordings based on friendship.

Mary Engelbreit's aphorisms, witty sayings, and quotes appear on 14 million greeting cards each year.

I want to paint a few more of her illustrations. I am working on one of her another illustrations, and hope to complete it as soon as possible!

Bo-peep!

Greetings,

After a long time, I was able to finish a small sewing project successfully! This is a felt doll based on a nursery rhyme Bo-peep! The doll is hand sewn and made using the stitch around method, a very easy doll designed by none other than Jean Greenhowe! 

I hope, my busy schedule will let me finish a few more projects in the near future!

Bhumada Ootta (Bride and Groom's wedding lunch)

Greetings,

After a long time, I got some time to make another South Indian wedding scene! This is all about the Bride and Groom having their lunch together, for the first time after the wedding ceremony! Bride and  Groom will be served separately and five plantain leaves will be arranged together, and the wedding meals will be served on these leaves. The Bride and Groom will have food from the same leaf. They feed the food to each other and Bride's and Groom's parents and other close relatives also sit along with them to have lunch. This is a very fun event since, the other people watching the bride and groom eat,  pull the legs of all the couples sitting there to have their meals. Even the other couples sitting along with the bride and groom will be forced to feed each other. 

In front of the banana leaves beautiful and colorful rangoli will be drawn and the lamps will be lit.

In this ritual, the groom's mother-in-law will serve the food to the groom and the the groom is supposed to hold the hand of his mother-in-law while she is serving. (This is like the groom is teasing the mother-in-law by holding her hand and trying to get naughty, this is my way of understanding 😜)

I used some waste containers to make these dolls. Overall, it was a fun project to make.  I tried to be quite creative and imaginative and very happy with the results!

I am planning to make some more South Indian wedding scenes in my near future!

Summer.

Greetings!

It's extremely hot in here! For this summer, I crocheted a doll named Summer. This doll is made from the book 'My crochet Doll' by Isabelle Kessedjian. This is the second doll I am making from this book. 

I tried a different type of eyes this time. I bought a pair of button earrings, painted them and glued them in place. I also stuck the fake eyelashes to enhance the eyes. 

In my busy schedule, I am able to finish up a doll here and there. I am quite happy about that, even though I am a little disappointed that it's not enough. Planning to blog more often, I will try my best to keep up with this.
